To be in with a chance of receiving one of his much sort after treats, which have in previous years included hand finished cards, and a unique painting bound in a catalogue you are at the very least advised to join his mailing list, which you can do HERE

LONDON: LOADS OF ART STUFF, BUT NOT FOR ME

So I had the whole evening planned nip into Laz in Greek St (Sorry The Outsiders) for a bit of Modern Toss. Then on the tube to meet up with friends at the Artswipe show, pick up a Cartrain print and over to Dran at P.O.W. Take in the group show at Stolen Space and then 3 at Pure Evil all walking distance, and then it snowed and my trains stopped running.
So if you are in London tonight then you can have my beer allowance at each of the shows as I'm at home sulking, and if you feel the Christmas spirit in you and fancy picking me up a Cartrain print I would be overflowing with gratitude.

BROOKLYN: PORTRAITS STEN & LEX AND GAIA

I nicked the writeup below from HiFructose blog, its worth clicking the link and having a look as they have some lovely show preview photos:
The Italian duo of Sten and Lex will be bringing their unique hand-cut "stencil posters" (as they're both stencils and posters) stateside for the first time this coming weekend (October 16th to be exact) when they'll be showing with HF-favorite Gaia for 'Portraits' over at Brooklynite Gallery. A celebration of the subject, 'Portraits' is an intriguing look into visual derivation as the three artists create conceptually revolutionary works in the typically tedious genre. As an added bonus, Drago Books will be on hand for the opening to promote the new Sten and Lex publication.
If you can't make it as I can't, then you can join in the fun via the Live TV button on the gallery website HERE OOPs! The Live TV is not working tonight so forget that idea.

AUSTRALIA: PASTE MODERNISM 2

This looks like fun if you are in the Sydney area, any event that includes Pure Evil, Anthony Lister and Copyright on the same bill gets my vote.
It's too early to write fluffy stuff so hear is the press release (in part):
Paste Modernism returns in it's second incarnation with a list of local and international paste-up artists such as: SMC, JUMBO, ZAP, PURE EVIL, COPYRIGHT, ROYAL, DRYPNZ, OLIVE47, BUNKWAA, RICO, KONSUMTERROR, FELIX, APESEVEN, MAX BERRY, BEN FROST, BRIDGE STEHLI, NUMSKULL, ANTHONY LISTER, HA-HA, DRAB, VEXTA, MINI-GRAFF, ESJAY, HOUL, CREON, JOHN DOE + MANY MANY MOREOver 40 artists have entered the space over 4 days before the opening, to transform the walls of Lo-Fi into a visual mash-up of pasted up creations, that is normallyonly ever seen on the streets. From hand painted colour to black and white photocopies, from screenprints to large scale drawings - the only restriction is that the workmust be on paper and must be able to be wheat-pasted to the walls of the gallery. In the same way that street art is a movement available to everybody, the concept of Paste-Modernism is not defined by any 'artist heirachy' or exclusivity and so the call-out to artists was open to everybody who wanted to particpate. In doing so we hope to generate not only a further appreciation for the artform but innovation by the artists as they work beside each other in the space. The exhibition will only be up for 4 days and will evolve over the duration of the opening as artists contiue to add and modify the walls as they see fit. Because of Pastemodernism's ephemeral nature, none of the artwork will be for sale, and will rely heavily on documentation to be uploaded to the internet for it to continue on..Curated by Ben Frost and Bridge Stehli.Venue: Lo-Fi Collective, 383 Bourke St, Darlinghurst, Sydney. (above Kinsellas on Taylor Square)http://www.wearelofi.com.au/collective/Opening: Thursday October 7th, 2010 - 6pm - 9pmexhibition continues until Monday morning 11th October -
pastemodernism will be open from 5.30pm - 8pm friday, saturday and sundayextra opening hours will be detailed on the pastemodernism 2 facebook page ::

DALEK UNTITLED AT STUDIO CROMIE

Mmmmm! Take a look at the latest offering from Studio Cromie. This 31 colour screen print from James Marshall aka Dalek is untitled but not unloved by us at artbleat. From an edition of only 30pcs this print measures up at 50cm X 50cm and was crafted just in time to tie in with the Fame festival 2010 .

Studio Cromie describe this beauty thus:
"it's a 31 colors handpulled screenprint and it's definitely our biggest effort as a screenprinting studio. it took us long time to print it and we had to improvise a lot of tricks to make it work (since our studio has zero professional tool and it's all totally diy)luckily it turned out beautiful and we are really pleased with the results"

BEYOND PUNK AT SIGNAL GALLERY

I am not sure what to expect from the Signals Beyond Punk show tonight, with the theme being more artist than art related it promises a night of surprises if nothing else. Cant wait to see Jamie Reid, Gee Vaucher and Guy Denning work hung on the same wall (hang on sounds like my house) along with some Shepard HPM's. Dale Grimshaw is painting the outside wall and I will have some photos up tonight if I make it home.
The guest list for this is now closed, however there is a lovely big window in the front of the gallery so there is nothing stopping you from popping down and giving Adam Ant a wave.

SPECTER AT PURE EVIL

I have put some photos from the show on the artbleat flickr HERE ,enjoy.

Looking forward to catching this show NYC's Specter at Pure Evil Gallery in east London. The photo is from pure Evil's basement and below this is the press release. SPECTER SOLO SHOWPURE EVIL GALLERY 5th– 24th August 2010
Private View Thursday 5th Aug 6-9pm
Introducing Specter’s UK debut Solo show, bringing an unique portrayal of the socially marginalised, all the way from the streets of Brooklyn, New York.
Specter creates installations and street artwork displayed in abandoned buildings and forgotten spaces to draw attention to the urban situation which is the inspiration for his creative concepts. He evolves the subject matter by interlacing influences from the environment he chooses to adorn, incorporating characteristics from the surrounding neighbourhoods, architecture, local business and social economic classes; transforming the unwitting publics’ understanding of the space.
Through graffiti influence, he became obsessed with art in public spaces, where he sees potential inspiration and appropriate location to express his creativity. His aim is to deconstruct preconceived perceptions and draw attention to the neglected and less desirable issues, the non-sensational stories of the undervalued detritus of our culture we seldom hear about.
Recent works combine painting and drawing using representational and figurative aesthetics.

2CENTS SHRAPNEL AND A CRACKING PRESS RELEASE

I know I have been a bit slack on my posts recently and I fully aim to make amends in the next few days when I am at peace with my PC, there has been loads going on this week I need to shout about and I will.
However until then here is a nice print from 2cent.
As luck would have it the print is much better than the press release which is pasted in full under the image, while it is reasuring to know that 2Cent created this image "Using pictures and shapes as a DJ would use breaks and loops" I cant see how it helps to know that someone in the 2Cent camp expects us to believe that the said image is of "a child in Halloween make up which evokes the feeling of nostalgia growing up in an uncertain time and using simple things to escape the boredom of day to day life" but if this is your take on it then I can only apologise for playing the doubting Thomas.
Enjoy
