I stopped off at the shop at Laz to have a peek at the Scott Campbell Dollar bill carvings, if that's how you describe them and was totally entranced. I have some photos on the artbleat flickr that will give you an idea but you need to see them in the flesh to really feel them.
The "Always Almost There" show is at the Shop at Laz in Greek Street for the duration of October.
This is part of the Laz press release:
The Shop at Lazarides is very proud to announce the opening of Scott Campbell's first UK solo exhibition 'Always Almost There'. This collection looks at the desire to memorialize through iconography, drawing on Scott's background in tattoo art, the bedrock of his approach. The show includes several series of his work. The first is a series of 100-deep stacks of 1-dollar bills with layers removed to reveal an image within the currency. Also featured in the show is a series of collages which play on the urge to commemorate through symbolism; and the random narrative that is created when they coexist. This show promises to be an insightful quotation of Americana that should not be missed!
